BGCB Board Members for 2010

President - Morry La Tour
Morry was born in Elmhurst Illinois July 20 1954. In addition to currently serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Blue Grass Council of the Blind, he is serving as Chair of the Mayors Commission for Citizens with Disabilities, along with several other city and county boards. Morry is working constantly on making Lexington and Fayette County a totally accessible community for the blind and visually impaired along with all people with disabilities.

Judy was born in Elkhorn City, (Pike Co.) KY and moved to Lexington to attend the University of KY. She also attended Lexington Community College. Worked for Appalachian Regional Hospitals and Island Creek Coal Company in Lexington in the Payroll and Human Resources Departments. She currently works for the Oreck Clean Home Center. Judy has histoplasmosis and is legally blind.

Betty is a native of Lexington, KY. She graduated from Henry Clay High School and has an Associate Degree from Lexington Community College. She has Macular Degeneration but enjoys listening to books on tape. She also enjoys playing with her cat who’s name is Star Cat.
Treasurer - Gary Knack
Gary graduated from Morehead State University with a BBA degree with an emphasis in Accounting, and was a Corporate Controller, Corporate President and an Internal Auditor. Gary also owned Commercial property in Lexington, KY, and served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era. He enjoys golf, fishing, woodworking and reading.

Susan was born in Covington, and moved to Lexington with her family in 1970. She attended Lexington Catholic High School and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s Degree. She received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Louisville in 1987. Susan is legally blind from birth. She serves on the BGCB board as Chairperson of the Outreach Committee. She enjoys reading biographies, fiction, and adventure stories, listening to classical and country music, and likes to travel.

Keisha has lived in central Kentucky all of her life. She currently lives with her mom Leslie, her guide dog Winston, a 12 pound mutt named Max, and a tabby cat called Bubby. She has been blind since birth, and is also hard of hearing and has cerebral palsy. Keisha has a bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Kentucky. She attended public school until her junior year, at which time she decided to enroll at KSB as a senior to participate in their independent living program. She also spent 3 months at the NFB Colorado Center for the Blind. Her hobbies include: reading, computer work and games, working word puzzles, listening to music, rubber stamping, and playing Wii. Other activities she enjoys include: volunteering at BGCB and Cardinal Hill, attending water aerobics classes at the YMCA, socializing with friends, going to movies, concerts, and eating out.

Linda was born and raised near Pasadena, California. She graduated from Westmont College, Santa Barbara, CA in 2004 with a B.A. in Sociology and obtained her M.A. in Vision Rehabilitation therapy from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI in December 2005. Obtaining international certification, she worked as a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) in Vermont before moving to Wilmore, KY in 2008 where she currently resides with her guide dog. She is continuing to work as a CVRT in Central and Eastern Kentucky. In Fall 2009, Linda began pursuing a Graduate Certificate and international certification to become an Orientation and Mobility Specialist and is looking forward to graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in December 2011. Linda is excited to serve on the BGCB Board for her first term. As a member of ACB, she has actively served on numerous boards since the late 90s for CA, VT, and Guide Dog Users and its state affiliates. During her spare time, she enjoys outdoor recreational activities and sports, cooking, and reading.

Peggy was born in Wolfe County, Kentucky in 1945. She graduated from Wolfe County High School and Married Gary Knack in August 1967. Peggy and Gary moved to Lexington in 1975. She is a stay at home housewife. Peggy likes to read and be a loving wife.

Linda was born in Chicago, Illinois. She was born with only light perception, and was mainstreamed in public grade school in as many classes as possible. From seventh grade mainstreamed completely. She was a transcriptionist for the American Red Cross during the Vietnam War, working in the department that served military families. Her first desire was to go to Bible College, and she was blessed to be able to walk to Moody Bible Institute for evening classes after work. Linda eventually quit her job to go full time to Bible College. Afterwards, she got another typing job, got married, and eventually left Chicago. She and her husband were married in 1975 and have two wonderful daughters. Linda loves singing, reading, going to the Y when she can get there, and was a proofreader for about 20 years. This gave her the opportunity to work and enjoy reading at the same time. She can also play the piano, guitar, accordion, and organ.

Marlene grew up in Lexington and graduated from Lafayette High School. The year unimportant! Then she attended Georgetown Co9llege (all of 12 miles away from home) for two years. She worked at the University of Kentucky Public Relations Department begining as a Secretary and ending as the Assistant Editor. It was at UK that she met her husband, Charles, and they went to Laredo Air Force Base, Texas after he graduated from UK. She traveled around the world ending up in Kansas City where she was a realtor for over 30 years and a Mortgage Loan Officer 3 years. Marlene belongs to many Lexington civic organizations and this year got to perform for nine of them as Mrs. Claus. She attended Clown Classes at a Community College in KC and has performed for functions at civic, church, and private parties - even got to perform at a real circus! Currently, she serves BGCB as Membership Chair and is enjoying getting to know everyone. Life is Wonderful, says Marlene.

Martha was born in Salisbury, NC, where she attended school before moving to Lexington. She is a long-time BGCB Member, and has previously served on the BGCB Board. Martha also enjoys boat riding on the river, cooking, and baby-sitting.
