Notes form the office:

We have had a lot of activity here at the office during February and March.  Application for United way Funding, VIP meetings, Quarterly  membership meeting, inspections by the Urban League, Fire Department, Godís Pantry and some people just stopping by to see who we are.  Sixteen different people came by to volunteer over 150 hours at the office during March.  If you would like to add your name to our volunteer list, just pick up the phone, call us and we will work out a day for you.  Wheels passes are available for our volunteers who come to the office.

Notes from our Board of Directors

The committee to purchase computers for the office has made a choice and ordered the equipment.

A message to those members  interested in going to the ACB Convention this July.  Members in good standing, with yearly dues paid before March 1, 2006, may contact the BGCB office by May 6th, 2006 and request their name be submitted to the Board for funds.  The board will review available funds before taking any action.

MEMBERSHIP MEETING

At our last membership meeting some nice ladies from the County Clerkís office brought some of the new voting machines and gave one on one instructions on their operation.

Our next Quarterly Membership meeting will be held on Saturday, June 17, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Beaumont Branch Library located at 1080 Fieldstone Way.  Refreshments will be served.  We look forward to seeing all of you there.

VIP Support Group

The support group is still going strong.  At our last group meeting Kristy Stambaugh from Lexington Parks and Recreation gave an informative talk outlining all the different programs Parks and Recreation offers  for adults.  If you missed this program and would like to know more about what the Parks Department can offer you, call Kristy at 288-2908.

Check the Calendar of Events at the beginning of the Newsletter for the upcoming VIP meetings.  We will continue to sent a Reminder Notice and give you up to date information about each meeting.

WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE

We have a new Chairperson for the Ways and Means Committee and it is no other than one of our newest members, Morry La Tour.  We just finished our Macys Shop With A Cause fund raiser.  Our members sold and bought sale tickets. Carol Porter and Paul Wiese sold sale tickets at the door at Macyís.  In all, we collected $420 for our first fund raiser.  Good going everyone! Give yourself a pat on the back.  Macyís will have another sale this fall. Hopefully, we will do as well or better.

YARD SALE  *  YARD SALE  *  YARD SALE  *  YARD SALE

We will have TWO YARD SALES this year.  The first will be on Friday, April 28 from 9 am until 5 PM and will be held at 744 Wellington Way.   Mark you calendar to come and shop.  To have any good yard sale you need good STUFF.  If you have any items to donate call Judy at 523-9338 or the BGCB office at 259-1834.

The second sale day  (June) will be announced later.

A message from Morry:   RUNDRAISING CHALLENGE.  The BGCB is constantly faced with the need to raise money for the on  going mission and projects of our organization.  There are so many different ways to do fund raising, that it is hard to know what works best.  We would like to have feedback from you on the type of fund raiser you think would benefit BGCB.  One suggestion has been a Home Interiors fundraiser.  It would involve taking orders from a catalog for such things as candles and lotions.  Members and friends could purchase such items and BGCB would receive  50 % of the sales. This could potentially be a nice source of income for BGCB.  The more of us that get involved the more opportunities to succeed.   Please call the BGCB office and give us you input regarding your involvement in the fundraising opportunity.

JUST TO SAY THANK YOU FOR GIFTS*IN*KIND
