GENERAL BOOKS SECTION - BOOKS
These are several books we've found helpful and/or interesting.

More Ready Than You Realize

Evangelism as dance in the postmodern matrix.

WARNING: This is not just another book on evangelism. This book contains fresh, encouraging, challenging, groundbreaking, and doable ideas you'll want to share... Disciple-making as conversation, as friendship, as influence, as invitation, as companionship...

The Church on the Other Side

Tested strategies for pastors and churches that want to be somewhere else in the postmodern world and need reliable and practical help to get there. Now revised and expanded. Formerly titled Reinventing Your Church.

Missional Church

What would a theology of the church look like that took seriously the fact that North America is now itself a mission field? This question lies at the foundation of this volume written by an ecumenical team of six noted missiologists.

A New Kind of Christian

This stirring fable captures a new spirit of Christianity--where personal, daily interaction with God is more important than institutional church structures, where faith is more about a way of life than a system of belief, where being authentically good is more important than being doctrinally "right..." Brian McLaren's delightful account offers a wise and wondrous approach for revitalizing Christian spiritual life and Christian congregations.

Ancient Future Faith

In his provocative new work, Ancient-Future Faith, Robert E. Webber contends that present-day evangelicalism is a product of modernity. Allegiance to modernity, he argues, must be relinquished to free evangelicals to become more consistently historic. Empowerment to function in our changing culture will be found by adapting the classical tradition to our postmodern time. Webber demonstrates the implications in the key areas of church, worship, spirituality, evangelism, nurture, and mission.

The Celtic Way of Evangelism

George G. Hunter III points out that, while the attention paid to the Celtic Christians is well deserved, much of it fails to recognize the true genius of this ancient form of Christianity. What many contemporary Christians do not realize is that Celtic Christianity was one of the most successfully evangelistic branches of the church in history.

The Church Comes Home

The Church Comes Home is a handbook for those interested in home churches. It is both visionary and practical. It describes how home churches can be formed, how they should grow, and how networks of home churches can develop.

Church Without Walls

In Church Without Walls, Jim Petersen offers an exciting definition of the church that pushes beyond the too-small boundaries we've inherited from the past. The first-century Christians had to sort out Jesus from Judaism in order to become a people for all nations. Today, we have to sort out Jesus from our religious traditions in order to make Him available to our nation. That's the challenge we face: Will we be the church without walls, communicating a gospel free of traditional and cultural trappings? Or will we continue to reproduce our forms and structures, hiding the essence of the gospel within?

Where Do We Go From Here?

The quintessential "handbook" for the cell-based church by Ralph Neighbour Jr.

The Second Reformation

The Second Reformatin lovingly, yet firmly challenges us to evaluate the church today. This book deals with hard questions that many of us have wrestled with for years.

Life In His Body

Here is your new field-tested guide to the cell-based church! Practical, simple and comprehensive, it synthesizes the inner-workings of a cell chuch. It clearly communicates the keys to developing a vital cell-based church.

THOMAS MERTON SECTION - BOOKS
Merton is the serious man! Amazing spiritual insights. I've read him for several years now and still haven't gotten enough. He was a Trappist Monk at Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky (right down the road) from 1941 til 1968. He died accidentally in Thailand while giving a conference, but his wisdom still lives on.

The Seven Storey Mountain

A modern-day Confessions of Saint Augustine, The Seven Storey Mountain is one of the most influential religious works of the twentieth century.

The Intimate Merton

Culled from the seven volumes of his personal journals, this twenty nine year chronicle deepens and extends the story Thomas Merton recounted and made famous in The Seven Storey Mountain.

New Seeds of Contemplation

New Seeds of Contemplation seeks to awaken the dormant inner depths of the spirit so long neglected by Western man and to nurture a deeply contemplative and mystical dimension in our spiritual lives.

Thoughts In Solitude

Thoughts in Solitude addresses the pleasure of a solitary life, as well as the necessity for quiet reflection in an age when so little is private.

No Man is an Island

This volume is a stimulating series of spiritual reflections which will prove helpful for all struggling to find the meaning of human existence and to live the richest, fullest and noblest life. --Chicago Tribune.

The New Man

The New Man shows Thomas Merton at the height of his powers and has as its theme the question of spiritual identity. What must we do to recover possession of our true selves? By way of an answer, Merton discusses how we have become strangers to ourselves by our dependence on outward identity and success...

The Sign of Jonas

The follow-up to Seven Storey Mountain, this book is a collection of journal entries from Merton's early life and spiritual development at Gethsemani.

Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander

A series of monastic notes, opinions, experiences, and reflections considers such issues as the ""death of God,"" politics, modern life and values, and racial strife.
