Why "DolphinSafe"?
One of my favorite dishes was a particular tuna casserole, and,
well it is cute :-)
-
What is a "Browser"?
A Browser is a computer program that is used to look at web pages and
other internet documents.
-
What is the difference between the internet and the world-wide web?
The Internet is a network, think of it like a the national phone network.
Everything is connected, but not at the same time. The World-Wide
Web (WWW) is the internet, but the Internet is more than just the WWW.
Email is internet, but it is not the WWW. The Internet also encompasses
FTP, NewsGroups, and Gopher.
-
What is FTP?
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is an efficient means to transfer files
over the internet. Before the popularity of the WWW, FTP was the
main way to trade images and files.
-
Then what is HTTP:?
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is what identifies a web browser
that a document is designed to be used in the WWW.
-
That sounds like HTML.
-
HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the code that allows browsers to read
simple text documents and turn them into nicely designed sites.
-
What are NewsGroups?
NewsGroups (or usenet) are kind of like email mailing lists.
The big difference is the messages are not mailed to the members.
They are collected at different sites around the world. Users then
log into these sites and search through the groups for messages of interest.
-
What is Gopher?
Invented at the University of Minnesota, Gopher sites were chiefly
used to trade text documents between users. Links much like WWW links
connected sites to one another.
