Thespian Rogue
This family was Louisville, KY. During the 1920's, the father had begun
a hardware store in Louisville, and lived in Bardstown, KY. The business
was thriving, but Mon was rather bored. So she started writing plays, and
making the costumes/clothes to accompany the parts. She would go to men's
organizations, and the men would dress in the clothes. The play was about
a wedding. The men would dress as the bride and groom, while others attending
the wedding would be George Washington, and different people in history.
This original play was designed as a fund-raiser for the organization.
Then Mom began to venture out, and Dad didn't want her going. So he sold
the business, and started traveling with her as her manager, and booked
the shows. They made massive amounts of money, traveling all over the United
States.
