- The Onion
-- Mere words fail to describe the hilarity of The Onion's unique
brand of intelligent, searing satire. We guess "intelligent"
and "searing" are words, so we take back what we said earlier
about the failing and everything. We were just being lazy.
- Seanbaby
-- Remember that mumbling weirdo who sat hunched in the back of biology
class making snide remarks about the teacher's sweat stains while scratching
pictures of disemboweled cats in the desk? That was Seanbaby. He's still a
sick, hysterical freak, but now he's a sick, hysterical freak with a
website. Witness the power of technology.
- Modern
Humorist -- MH is the rising star of short, sharp Web comedy. Fueled by
a deep pool of freelancers from hit shows like Letterman and Conan, the site
is updated daily with fresh funnies. Some gags hit and others miss, but
either way, it's a hell of a roller-coaster ride!
- Brunching
Shuttlecocks -- Don't worry, they're not British. The Shuttlecocks' geeky
humor is as original as their name, only less sexual.
- Daily
Radar: Direct Hit -- Every week brings a new theme at DH, like Drunk
Week, Geek
Week, and our personal favorite, The
Simpsons Week. Whatever the theme, the prolific gamer geeks at Direct
Hit never cease to astound us with their wacky wit and seemingly endless
library of bizarre pop culture images. I never even knew the Skipper owned a
llama, let alone bathed it in orange marmalade.
- McSweeney's
-- If you're into jokes about flatulent farm animals, look elsewhere.
McSweeney's is comedy the New Yorker-style -- high brow, literate, and just
a tad snippy.
- Suck --
Suck has been around since the Stone Age of the Web and has consistently
maintained its reputation for witty, pseudo-but-sorta-legit intellectual
banter. If you're easily distracted by big words and prefer your comedy in
pictorial form, tune in Wednesdays to catch "Filler," Suck's
weekly, sardonic comic strip hosted by Polly Esther.
- Satire
Wire -- SW is "The Onion lite" with a tech culture twist. It
specializes in bogus tales from dot-com hell and assorted sarcastic
tomfoolery. Of all The Onion copycats, it is certainly the best.
- Sweet
Fancy Moses -- SFM takes the McSweeney's approach to humor and serves it
up intellectual and dry as the Sahara. No fear of gut-busting here, but
there's a constant threat of half-restrained chuckling. Good for those with
a chronic heart condition and late-term pregnant mothers.
- Fark --
When all else fails, there's always Fark.
Fark is a "news" filter in the loosest sense of the word. If
you're on the hunt for a good cheap laugh, the daily Fark postings are your
best bet for finding the latest and strangest websites along with the
silliest stories from the wide world of weird.
