Older Internet Utility that lets a user log on to a remote computer. Gives the user a character based terminal window on another system. The user receives a login prompt. Users are required to have an account on the computer they are trying to logon. Telnet gives the user the opportunity to logon to a remote computer and use the resources of that computer as if they were physically attached to that computer. Users can compile programs, execute programs, edit code and create web sites. Telnet provides users the opportunity to utilize computers and operating systems they might not otherwise have the ability to access
At LCC we have the ability to Telnet to SWEB.UKY.EDU. You can Telnet to SWEB from at home
using the TeraTerm program. You can download the
TeraTerm program and TTSSH DLL. You need to download and install both.
Once you download and install the Program, you can connect to SWEB on startup.

You are then required to logon.

Finally you receive a console window and can execute commands and programs. Since SWEB runs
the UNIX operating system, you can execute UNIX commands, compile and execute C and C++ programs ,and
create a web site under the Apache Web Server.
