New Addition!

My wife, Ashley, and I would like to present our new baby boy: Owen Douglas Pollard, born at 9:22PM on the 10th of April, 2005 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY. At birth he was 7lbs-12.2ozes and measured 20 1/4" long. He currently has violet colored eyes and a head full of black hair. Ironically his initials are O.P. which is the Obstetrics short hand for his position during labor (occiput posterior), which means he was "sunny side up."

We were scheduled for induction at midnight on April 10th. At 11PM on the 9th, Ashley went into labor on her own and we arrived for the induction ready to go with regular contractions. After 20 hours of labor it was apparent that Owen was turned backwards and was not able to apply enough pressure to Ashley's cervix to finish dilating her past 4cm. So, at 8PM Dr. Holt decided a C-Section was the best choice. about 90 minutes later, Ashley and I heard Owen for the first time!

Anyone who thinks a C-Section is a minor procedure, has never glanced over the curtain and seen what is going on. I think the 10 minutes of waiting to be allowed into the operating room and the 20 minutes I spent holding Ashley's hand during the operation brought me closer to the understanding of Love than anything else in my life so far. In that state of mind I was handed our first child.

If you're so inclined, our little bundle of joy is featured here.

I'm sure I'll have more to say on this subject as the periods of sleep between feedings and fussings increases.
